Hello All: We have seen many people buying and selling sponsorships of WP Themes. We were wondering what successes people have seen with this. Would love to hear the stories of people who have bought any of these.
I have sponsored 2 templates so far in this month.. This is my first try on WP sponsorship.. Both my templates have been downloaded 1000+ times till now and increasing.. I can see increase in technorati and alexa ranking.. I am excited to know the results in google and the next PR update
The design is essential, it has to have an excellent design (ask yourself: if you were looking for WP, would you download the theme and use it?). Great themes will be downloaded more obviously. Make sure there's a demo link before purchasing so you can make sure it works properly.

Sponsoring a WP theme is the cheapest way to get one way backlinks to your site. As we know, a link is a link, so it counts. I have sponsored two or three themes (can't remember quiet well) i believe it 2, and 2 i released. The results are satisfying me, especially because this is a new site and already competes with success for the targeted keywords, even tho the PR of this new site is 0 it still competes for those keywords i tested it on. The number of backlinks (at least those that i reached to track down) is not as big as the downloads number of the theme you see, but yet, you get a decent amount of backlinks. You just need to pay attention on what themes you bid, are the users able to easily manipulate the theme or not (many users tend to change theme if they can't manipulate it), what niche the theme is (i would rather bid in a Business theme for my Business website etc).
sponsoring is the cheapest and best way to get back links...more over it helps creator of wordpress themes to earn(like me )
same here. what I hate the most is seeing websites using the themes I sponsor but taking off my link... best way is to create your own theme and just put your link in the footer but even then, some may take it off ..
now that can't be controlled...its the people who need to show some respect to the coders or sponsors and therefore dont remove the link
That is true, many take off the link. But there is a way to track that too (the designer) if he wanted and pursue the ones that take off the link (but thats a long run and noone wants to really get after that). Yet, for me, remains the fact that it is the cheapest way to get backlinks, i have used it, and will sponsor again WP themes (but as i said, you need to be picky).
