I have unique and authentic content about certain US based entity that is very much disliked my people in real life and especially online. If I release the content via WP blog and strategically promote it thru various online mediums I can get a big spike in initial traffic. I totally see it hitting Digg frontpage and from my past experience (few years ago) I know that Digg will kill your server. I have been out of Digg submitting game for a while and dont know what to expect in terms of traffic. I know in the past I had more than 1000 visitors in first hour of hitting the front page. What do you recommend in terms of hosting? I know my VPS with 384 megs of ram choked quickly on one of my old frontpage submissions. Should I make most of the content as static pages? Is it possible to run it on some cheap hosting like Hostgator with some special cache plugins? I would want to host it away from all my regular sites since I'm afraid it might go viral and send massive traffic. I think for the first week of release it might get massive traffic after that it will die down to maybe few hundred per day. What do you recommend in terms of hosting and plugins to manage sudden spikes to a blog that should have 5 or less posts to start. Any and all comments are appreciated in advance.
Use dedicated hosting. Try and find a host that will only charge for the bandwidth you alone use. Look ! No affiliate link !
