WP plugin for sitemap - permissions not working

This is driving me nuts. I installed the google sitemap generator from Arne Brachhold. I went into the plugins and activated.

My blog is setup in the root directory of the domain. I know it needs to be writable but what exactly is writable???

The docs say the blog directory needs to be writable. I think that means the folder on the server with the domain's name. But when I make that writable, I still get the error msg when I try to build a sitemap.

Plus it seem to me the whole website is not supposed to be writable.

This is really starting to bug me. Where am I supposed to change the permissions to build this map.

    Could not write into /www/domainname(dot)com/sitemap.xml

PS - I even tried uploading a blank file called "sitemap.xml" and made it writable so it could use that file but it won;t work either.

thx so much for the help

take a screenshot so we know what is going on or give us the exact error. You should not have to do anything other than activate the plugin and use it to build a sitemap...

In your root folder you should have a sitemap.xml and a sitemap.xml.gz file the permissions for both should be set to 666
