WP DB issue

:( I had a guy fiddle with my WP admin to upgrade it manually to 2.8.3 and create some adsense template the other day.

But as that was done, a strange warning popped up at WP-admin area!

Your backup folder MIGHT be visible to the public

To correct this issue, move the .htaccess file from wp-content/plugins/wp-dbmanager to /home/content/69/4494169/html/wp-content/backup-db

I didnt do anything but asked the person who tried to fix my WP issue about it. He said it could be db problem and said will reinstall the entire WP (he asked a fee for that). Now after reinstallation of the wordpress, I dont see any of the images on my blog. When I question, the person says:

Problem is with the wp-db; which messed up the uploads folder of the wordpress, that apparently cause the system not to export the images. He says to post all images one after another and its not easy to do 160+ image

Could that be the same reason? If so how to resolve it?

I appreciate if someone could figure out what the issue could be! By the way, I run my blog on a premium wootheme.

    Hi,

To correct this issue, move the .htaccess file from wp-content/plugins/wp-dbmanager to /home/content/69/4494169/html/wp-content/backup-db

if u followed this suyggestion everything will be fine, but u followed that person's suggestion, but he totally messedup the site for fee.

i don;t any images on my blog -> means, u don;t have uploaded images previously in your blog ?

if u post more detailed info about the present situation and if u have backups, That will be gr8.

    -Thanks.

Ah! It means, I dont see any images now..after upgrade, reinstallation and all..

Sadly, I have deleted all of the images from my server/PC and the guy says I will need to have backup of images and that I will need to post every image all over again!

I am wondering should anyone of you know an easier way to get all images. Why wouldnt the images be saved in DB backup? I believe there should be an easier way out than reposting 160+ images. Can someone please tip on this please? :(

Talk with your hosting if they have any backup of your whole home directory.

Just because sometimes they keep old backups of home directory so maybe give it a chance. Maybe you are lucky in that..

The images are not in the database and are stored in the wp-contnet/uploads folder. If you paid someone to manually upgrade WP he should have backed up the database and the wp-content folder. The database will have the code in the posts for the images that point to that folder which is probably now empty or not even there.

The error message you were originally getting is from the newest version of wp-dbmanager plugin, not the core WP. What needed done was an .htaccess file placed into the folder specified in the error message. I have done it many times on various versions of WP.

I had in fact told the guy about the message and he checked it too! He impressed on me he is WP expert. He didnt want to place .htaccess fike into folder instead impressed me to reinstall WP. Then when he was reinstalling he overlooked taking a backup. My bad actually!
