WP cache causing slowness?

The problem with my WP site is that after a day of editing and adding content, it becomes slow. Once I clear my cache, its fine again for a while and then its back to being slow again. I am using Firefox 3 if that makes any difference.
I am new to having my own site so forgive me for asking such a noobish question. Can a webhost cause makes the site slow? I mean when I ping my site, it comes back relatively fast but is there any other factors involved that doesnt reflect by pinging?

If you don't have a lot of traffic i.e. 1000+ users per day then its' useless to use wp-cache. That plugin is infamous for causing many problems. Unless you have good traffic don't use it.

I was using WP-super cache and it caused me lots of problems but other people seem to get it working ok. Your website host can make a huge difference.

You can also try to stop some of the PHP queries going to the database and enter them straight in to the code.

have you checked it in a website speed online check? what is the loading time?

If you use WP-Super-Cache make sure your expiration time is set correct.

I have never gotten a word press cache plug in to function properly, and they have always caused me more problems than it is worth.
To speed up your loading time, I would just recommend keeping your plug ins to a minimum, and compressing your images (something I don't even do). And don't use plug ins that have simple code solution, like the favicon plug in.

I've actually recently installed hyper cache on one of my blogs and it seems to be working well. I now have another problem though using css compression as it affects everything in my sub-domains. The hyper cache plugin might be worth a try?

I was actually using WP-SuperCache and I removed it. Its slightly faster than before but still slow. I did an online website speed test and it is slow due to the main site's content which have a lot of pictures.
My site slowness is not on the main site but rather on the backend of WP and IPB forums. The actual main site is a lot faster compared to both of them. That is why I thought it is my host and it has something to do with connecting to the DB or something similiar to that.

the main thing that slows down cms is DB so that is why6 chache plugins try to avoid those by cearting real pages which are updated continously from wordpress

Yeah, sometimes the blog is faster without cache, but don't forget: using too many mysql queries will make a huge cpu increase, which is very bad on shared hosting...

so if you are on shared hosting, you definitely should use wp-super cache

    What is your host?

Yep. So don't use many plugins.

There are a ton of reasons that your site may be running slower. The top culprits are probably your hosting provider, some error or bad coding, or you have too much to download on your homepage. The last one is probably your problem. It's important to cut back on the things that may be slowing it down such as media rich material or pictures.

I am using Solidnode at the moment. They were with Ecatel and recently moved to Worldstream. I notice now the site is running slower. My old host was with Worldstream as well. Could it be a coincidence? :)
