If you have decent traffic that 4% jumps up quickly. It only takes a few hundred items to reach the 6.5%-7% mark and for some niche's that's a really good percentage.

but at the end it's amazon making the bulk of money, maybe you would do better with adsense (in 95% of all cases you will from my experience)

Nope. I've done fairly thorough testing on my niche site and found that I make substantially more through affiliate programs. I'm not saying 'just' amazon, but amazon alongside adsense, alongside other affiliate programs earns a lot more than just Adsense.

I'm sure it changes across markets.

I earned this month almost 15$ per 1000 pages visited from Amazon. The problem is to get traffic nowadays. I haven't earned much since I don't have much traffic. It is not easy to earn so much with Adsense...

hm, so it seem to depend on the site, but especially amazon is a poor performer often, as they don't pay much, but congrats, that you have success with them so far - for me others are performing better

The difference between AdSense and Affiliates is that you can't just throw an affiliate banner on any old site and expect it to perform.

You need targetted traffic and well placed links to make a sale but you soon find out what works. I've made 8 sales from 160 clicks so far, fairly good rate afaik.

    Congrats. $.56 is money!

I remember when I started... clicking like a mad on stormclix... and clicking on paid emails links! LOL.

    those pennies became dollars.
