Cool... my main site just passed coke.com at Marketleap and shows 82,354 backlinks. But... I am still struggling with all my keywords, and stuck at PR5. That proves that backlinks aren't the miracle cure for Google.
Good job! Yes, backlinks aren't the cure-all/end-all but they are important. And PR isn't something you should worry too much about. Sales always trump PR!
Quality backlinks are the key.. My guess is most of the backlinks are supplimental and or below a PR4.
I wonder though - is that the total backlinks, or what shows up in google. That's an impressive number of backlinks by any stretch! I'm surprised your struggling at all in any of your main keywords.
Marketleap's reported backlinks are a sum of a bunch of search engines. For example, links to www.digitalpoint.com is 666,377 (as reported by Marketleap), which breaks down to: 157,000 in AllTheWeb 161,000 in AltaVista 5,990 in Google 102,740 in HotBot 79,647 in MSN 160,000 in Yahoo A more interesting measure of links is Yahoo's linkdomain: function (reports any links to any page within your domain, not just a specific page). 527,000 for digitalpoint.com
You know, this would've been much more poiniant if I didn't have to type in this fluff to beat the filter... Anyways, since I'm forced to say something besides echoing the quote, I have to ask the question - why would one link to coke.com? I guess kids who are the target of their ad-filled propaganda games. Also: Anyone ever visit maddox.xmission.com (probably NSFW)? He doesn't promote, advertise, or link campaign and his satire site about "random ****" is beating coke, KFC, etc in Alexa. He wrote an article about it. Funniest ninja pirate on the internet, I can safely say.
Alltheweb 16,000 AltaVista 16,900 Google/ AOL 4,880 HotBot 3,466 MSN 29,759 Yahoo! 16,900 Total 87,905 Yahoo! linkdomain: 18,000 These are all kind of links. Some are sidewide, some are reciprocal, some are anchored, etc, meaning that my links don't follow a "pattern". What has this brought me? Nothing. I am on page 2 at Yahoo. All my top-10 keywords at Google dropped down to page 2. Now what??? I can't do more. I have a good on-page optimization, good keyword density, carefully selected title tags. Geez... Some days I just feel like selling my site and forgeting about all this ranking crap.
I am always looking for quality links or shall I say people who are interested in trading links on pages ranked P3 - P5 + ( Not directories). If you are interested please check out my site and let me know which page you would like on, all I ask is my link is on a page of equal ranking. BuckeyeAds.com My site is ranked on GOOGLE for hundreds of Keywords, first page on most! Especially anything to do with OHIO.
Daamnn! If it takes 80 000 backlinks to have a PR5, (not even 6)... then I'm giving up now! How on earth do you get to 80 000 backlinks in the first place???! I have been actively working on my site (PR4) the past month, getting some reciprocal links, but at the rate I'm going, I will be dead before I get to PR6. So tell me frymen... how did you get all that backlinks? Now I'm seriously considering just buying links...
Nice job fryman.. I'm about 2,000 short of Coke.com on one of my sites but Im getting there. It was funny seeing the name of the thread as I instantly thought of my situation. Cheers __________________ White Noise | Submit your site - No Recip Needed | Get Your Site Ranked Quick - Coop Network
It's relative to what PR is given by the link. A single backlink from a PR10 site will skyrocket your PR to about 7, if I remember Compar's guide correctly.
