Wow Joomla is so bad

Discussion in 'Joomla' started by fortify, Oct 13, 2008.

Wow for the past two hours I have been trying to use joomla on my site but everything is so hard to configure and I had to constantly google for instructions. The admin panel is way too complicated and extremely hard to navigate. So after 2 hours I am uninstalling and sticking with drupal.

I hate them both so much i went back to HTML/CSS

really frustrating the pair of them :(

1). Drupal you need to be a php wizard to do anything worthwhile
2). Joomla you need to be a brain surgeon to work out how to build a menu and add links..

I agree. I've used Xoops, Joomla , and a few other cms and they all take a while to learn. I was recently researching Typo3 cms. It's an excellent cms but some people were saying it takes several months and sometimes up to 6 months to learn typo3 cms, wow.. Trying to customize these cms takes a lot of effort too.

I'm using Joomla for four months now and it is easy to configure. It took me about a week to get used to it though (I've never used any CMS before), but since then it is easy and efficient.

I don't know PHP or CSS and still I was able to customize my sites without much work.

2 hours are nothing... you can't say that Joomla sucks without trying it properly.

No, this is not joomla vs. drupal flame.

I'm just trying to point out that judging any CMS after two hours of setting up is a nonsense.

What I am trying to say is that Drupal is much easier to get started and has less of a learning curve

Joomla definitely isn't for the faint of heart, but that doesn't make it "bad", its actually really powerful if you can get a grasp on it.

I will throw my 2 cents in. I run at this point about 70 sites on Joomla. At first I had difficulty and like anythign there is a learning curve. I don't want to say I have mastered Joomla but I no longer need help in building great sites. I could never get into Drupal or other CMS's. I can only tell you that Joomla offers a lot but you need to commit yourself to understanding the simple framework for content. Simple things like:

All content starts in Sections, then all sections have categories, all your content belongs to a certain category. Menus are very easy once you learn where the normal 4 go. I have taught many people how to use Joomla very quickly. Don't give up, I promise the end result is beyond worth it.

jup, Joomla is great. It's like a video game, put some effort in it, the better you become.
