I left hostgator about 7 years ago because of some issues where they stated my websites were taking up too many resources. Recently someone has transfered over a hosting account from them to my work and it is amazing how messed up things are still with them! There seems no formal way of transferring an account, they are billing it wrong and have not been able to tell me how to change the ticket email address. Just now I spent 25 minutes on the phone with their tech support and not only was nothing resolved, he hung up on me....
In those 7 years, they have been bought out by EIG, which if you do some research, is a company that owns some of the biggest and worst hosts in the industry. If anything, things are only going to get worse over there.
Thats the problem with large hosts, including Bluehost and Hostgator as well. Although they are relatively cheap, they cram thousands of accounts on shared servers and don't provide overly good support.
I wish I could say the same about godaddy. Meaning they are constantly changing and it is soooooooooooooooooooooo freakin aggravating. I began with them in 2006 and it was so confusing then, so dang cluttered, and it is even more overwhelming now. Well, not overwhelming for me ... but for a brand new user it would be crazy.
That basic thing everyone missing here is - Company like Hostgator or Bluehost built to be sold one day. These people are very cleaver. 1st they start a website with expensive stuffs then sell cheap web hosting. 2nd they put there company on the share market and make money from partners. 3rd when they got Hugh clients circle they contact ADS Agencies and sold all the email ID and all (I bought a software 3days ago where I just have to mention the place then I'll get Ph, name, email id in real just for one click all are from legal people. When I search the company selling the soft bought all DB for site like these) 4th they took loan from banks over there company 5th they cut down the good stuff like tech support, billing people and connect cheap people 6th, when everyone panic they issue a case called "Unfit for Business" then they sold their company 8th, Enjoy the money and never refunds the bank loans bcz there shares no longer their. Only people suffer = IS YOU!
Are you sure they sell email IDs and other data to ADS agencies? These companies should have Privacy Policy stated at their websites. This is against most privacy policies.
Hostgator prices aren't the cheapest, but the range of provided services is of high quality. At this company you'll be able to buy any type of hosting, from shared to dedicated. HostGator constantly offers pretty good discounts and has over 4,500 free design templates. If you don't like the quality of hosting, you may request a refund within the first 45 days of sign-up. The real company uptime rates were given by WebhostingWatch as a result of checking the performance of 200 websites. The conclusions can be seen on the picture below. But anyway, Hostgator - In its rules (paragraph 9b) agrees to add a free month of hosting, if the uptime is less than 99.9%.
@S_A_W What host did you go with after leaving hostgator, and are they better? Are you on a LAMP dedicated, VPS or shared?
