I launched my website last month and though't what the hell submitted to DMOZ and I have been listed, has anyone else been listed on DMOZ has it attracted any traffic? http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Clothing/Men's/ (Jiniy)
It took one of my sites a year to get approved in DMOZ. Once it was I noticed a big boost in my SERP's.
Congrats! I have submitted my site just for the fun of it but I don't really care if it gets appoved or not. I hope that you will benefit from it!
Actually, I didn't think anyone was actually working there any more. I have abunch of sites that I submitted a loooong time ago. Still nothing
I have submitted my site a few times and am easily within the guidelines... Never ever been accepted. DMOZ is an inside job and unless your in that network of people you dont get in... Hands down
I have tried to list several websites before and they don't get listed. Not sure why because I do everything correctly. I have heard that once you get listed, your traffic does go up so if you have any tips, feel free to share!
I have a fair few of my sites in DMOZ... The key is to not have a useless site, like the majority of submissions I expect lol. If your site would be useful to anyone anywhere - especially as a business site, then you will most likely be accepted.
Well when I was looking over an application for volunteering to be an approver I saw that you basically are assigned a category. Depending on the category like perhaps tech blogs. I'm pretty sure there are millions being submitted over a period of time. The time to dedicate to determining the TOS and info on the site is crazy. Thinking about all that I quickly closed out that window lol. I wouldn't expect any of my sites being approved anytime soon.
First time in my life I have seen somebody got listed in Dmoz. Would you please share your experience?
Or maybe he's never heard of DMOZ. I know lots of people that have never heard of it... I'd assume with the advances in technology, a lot of folks simply don't need such an out dated contraction like the ODP has to offer. As for the 5 million, does 4,892,414 sites really qualify as "about", and who is to say such a number is correct? Personally I think it's a fake number put there by a bunch of scammers... ya know, that mind set of yours that all the people on Scriptlance are scammers, the same could certainly apply in this instance. Afterall, there are like less then 7,000 editors, yet that front page claims 91,778 editors *shrug* Certainly doesn't add up in my book...
You know the neatest thing about this category? The last listing "http://www.wolsey.com" Kudos to the DMOZ team for listing such a high quality and high content site. BTW, the new site was to be launched May 7th... Good job boyz!!!
What would that achieve? DMOZ is already there, and it's flawless? And as for doing better, it should not be all that hard to get better quality, though according to the editors of the ODP it's all about the size. Post counts on external forums, edits on internal ones. They would rather have craptastic sites listed to up their edit counts and the overall site count of the ODP then actually bother with quality issues such as under construction sites, or sites that were listed by bots (in a HUMAN edited directory) that break multiple rules (10k++ deep links, no original content, unwarranted deep linking, etc etc etc). The proof is right there on the ODP. Want a better directory? Yahoo, BOTW, and any of the other paid ones (that by rights have thousands of free listings and tens of thousands less spam/crap/garbage/clutter). I'm not saying that the ODP should charge, just that their editors should care a bit more about things other then the number of sites they added.
British site = British date format = 5th July. I doubt if the site looked like that when it was listed last year but watever, it's now delisted.
Why do you think its so amazing? 1000's of sites are added each month that were not ever submitted. If you were easily within the guidelines, why did you deliberately break the guidelines by submitting more than once?
good luck mate. sure if your site is accepted in DMOZ it can boost your rank in SERP and of course can boost your traffic too
