Congrats. It all depends on the certain category editor. Yours was in the right mood, obviously... :)

Nothing to be in shock over, you just submitted your site to an active category :D

Though the trick is keeping your listing. Check out the other threads posted recently about vanishing sites...and now that the editors know you post here at DP they also know that you are an evil webmaster, lol.

Congrats on the listing though. It's good to see that the ODP works and that this forum is not just for complaints!

What is the trick. I added around one year back. But still not appeared. Only one site is added in that category. It looks like some editor added his own website and preventing others

What? In every one of the categories that you suggested yours to? I don't think so.

There is no trick. Editors add a great many sites every day. Some of them have been suggested by other people, but most have not.

Only editors can "add" sites, and they find them in all sorts of places.
By suggesting your site you simply make it easier for a volunteer to find, IF they feel like using those suggestions as a resource. That's all. Sorry, but that's the way DMOZ works. Many other directories work in different ways, so perhaps one of those might provide what you seek or expect.

To be honest Guys , this was the first real content site I added to dmoz and as such expected it to be accepted at some stage ( well more so than the ones i added in the past..)

I did nothing special other than provide my readers with quality content and I believe than an editor experience in the Category where added would see that ...

    Best of luck to all!

Hundreds of sites are added to the ODP every day.
New volunteers are accepted every day as well, so whichever way you look at it, it's not "very hard" to "get into" DMOZ at all. :)

Congrats. Your category obviously has an editor that's "doing the right thing"...

How is that possible? I heard that it takes at least 3 months to get listed. Are there some tricks to get listed sooner or?

I'm afraid you misunderstand what volunteer editors do.

We look for sites to add to the directory, and suggestions from other people are no more than one place we might look if we feel like it.

Just now I found and listed several sites. I didn't look to see if they had been suggested, because that is completely immaterial. So they were listed within seconds of my finding them - a lot less than 3 months. ;)

For all I know they might have been suggested yesterday, last week, last year, or 5 years ago. When or if a site is suggested really has absolutely nothing at all to do with when or if it is listed.

I went in and found 3 catagories that i could list my site in and all three have no editors. Does that mean the likelyhood of getting listed is null and void?
