make an adwords campaign to get people to come to your site, even though you won't make any money from them? I want to get people to my site, because I know that if I find 10 people that like it they will tell people they know. It's a very..."help other people out" niche.
There are plenty of free ways to get people to your site that I wouldn't pay for it unless you hope to make a profit from the traffic. Here are some of the usual ideas: 1) Make Squidoo pages linking to your site 2) Write articles linking to your site 3) Put a link to your site in your forum signature on any forums it seems to fit 4) Link to your site on Yahoo Answers for questions it answers Basically, with any free traffic generation you're investing time rather than money. If your time is more valuable to you than the money you'd pay for adwords, then it might make sense to use adwords. Jay
The main point of Adwords is to get traffic to your site in my opinion, so it doesn't really matter whether or not you're making money off of it.
You could consider adwords for this purpose, especially if you can find some cheap clicks. Set your max CPC to what you see fit and it should work for you. and don't forget the content network for cheap clicks.
My biggest success story to date is a site I build from scratch offering a free service. Users can sign up for free to get extra functionality. I ran a risky $1000 adwords campaign to get visitors. After the campaign, word of mouth took its course. The site now has over 150000 members. The site now generates a little under $10000 a month now. All from investing the $1000 to get the initial members. (And of course the kick ass content). Depending on your market, this can be a wise choice executed correctly. It's called branding.
