When you say something like "That is their culture?" then my question to you would be what is the American culture?

Let me guess... "In God we trust?"

Forgive my impudence but I've honestly never thought of the USA as a Christian nation. Could it be that I've been deceived by Satan? Because, not only do I fail to see the role of religion in a republic, but am also blind to what your reply has to do with my post. If saying "we are all made in his image" translates to "we are all equal" in your vocabulary, then that's something I'll agree with; otherwise, I don't see your point.

My point is that according to you and many, every country on earth has the excuse of "That is their culture", but when it comes to America, America is supposed to please everyone and God forbid someone may dare to hold on to keeping "In God we trust" sacred.

I don't know if Techman is American. In my perspective, American culture is a melting pot. In the American pot, there are many different religions, beliefs, races and nationalities. What we strive to hold in common is a belief in freedom of religion, respect for human dignity and justice for all.

Edit: BTW, I have no objection personally to the "In God We Trust". If I had the chance to get rid of it, I wouldn't. It is part of our history. It can also be applied to any higher power.

    I'm Indian.

Although I respect Blogmaster's opinions, it's not my intention to defend Islamic countries with "it's their culture to chop penises off." While I have a lot with them to disagree about, I won't be one to judge their electoral choices. If they, as a people, should choose to be led by a Muslim and none else, is there a point in criticizing them? If Americans ultimately want a Christian to be their President, that's wonderful; they've just made a choice for themselves.

The only problem I've had with this entire thread is that atheists are being bashed. People are somehow linking atheism and anti-social mentality, the rationality of which is beyond me.

I beg to differ on this, I believe every group, every society, every religion or lack of religion have their own bad hats as well as exemplary examples.

Not unless that atheist had strong views and could get things done. I don't look at religion as a factor, its just your views that count for me, and whether you can do the job right.

Excellent. I fully agree with you because, as an atheist myself, I'm biased with my faith.

Excellent. I fully agree with you because I've followed three separate religions in my lifetime before I finally became an atheist. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that religion has little to do with a person's humanity.

I disagree :) You are biased with your faithlessness not faith.

If they don't like submitting to their government, they will rebel. Clearly, Muslims in the Middle East have showed no intention of rebellion against their own rulers whatsoever. This either means they're content with being treated like cattle or they're too cowardly to pick up the machete.

Still, I feel you on what you're saying. It's frightening for me to even imagine being disenfranchised like that. But then again, isn't religion the cause of that?

    OK, you win ;)

I've heard this so many times it's laughable. You can't tell me because you have to be Christian to understand. How convenient.

Anyways in god we trust as probably mentioned above wasn't originally in the constitution. It should also be mentioned the U.S has no official religion like the Islamic countries that you mentioned. It's a different scenario here.
