I would not consider a permanent ad if my sites get a ton of traffic. Maybe perhaps on the newer ones.

funny that you should post this as in the last couple of days I've been approached by 2 people asking if I would be interested in such an arrangement but a much lower price than $1000.

One guy wanted me to place permanent paragraphs with targetted links on various pages on my blogs. At first I was going to go for it, but after considering it more, I decided not to.

It was probably the same person that approached a lot of us... I wrote a post a while back on why we should NOT do it at http://www.datmoney.com/2008/02/has-a-text-link-seller-offered-to-pay-you-don’t-do-it.html

Kg_Lew - Permanent meaning however long your site will last... so until your site goes down, that ad would be on there...

Depends on the future potential of the site

If i consider that the site will not get very big YES will sell if not will not sell

I mean, it's probably like six months old and you're getting close to 1,000 uniques a day on a PR3 site.

I dont really like the word "Permanent" I think you would better sell for annaul. who know in the future your sites might be 10 times bigger than now and you will regret why I sell this spot so cheap. :D

Don't get me wrong, I didn't do it. Matter of fact, that wasn't even me in the instance. I was just seeing what others would do and a majority seem to have said no.

Id sell a space for $1000 permanently... Something like one small text link. But a banner .... probably not.

I would on a smaller site, without reservations, unless I felt the site had great growth potential. On any site getting more than 20K Pageviews/month, I would not sell a permanent spot for that little.

Absolutely NO for it, as our site PR will be update from time to time, and we might have a better deal with monthly text links...

Just to answer some questions, the ad was actually be integrated into the background of your site. So it's not exactly a banner...
