    Hello -
I'm trying to decide if i should go with theXstore.com since it's available.
X represents a type of products, for expl: thecandystore.com of course the candystore.com is already taken.
What do you think ? Any suggestions? experiences to share are much appreciated.

I know a lot of successful websites with the word "the" in the domain, and have some experience in this myself, and I say go for it! :)

    GAY.COM is better then THEGAY.COM

It's like trying hard to say: "HEY LOOK AT ME! IM THE REAL SHIT!" ...not!

If the keywords are taken, sure put "the" in front of it. If it's short enough it will work but otherwise ur defeating the purpose of adding the "the" which is to rank for the keywords following it and still remaining easy to remember for type in traffic.

If it's long I would check if u can get just te keywords with a .us or .net extension

I think this is perfectly acceptable so long as your build your brand/company name to be "The X Store" as opposed to just "X store"

It depends on if it sounds like it will make sense (think "The Smoking Gun") and if someone owns the non-"the" version. If they do and it's developed already, then forget about it.

as long as it makes sense and fits well to what you are selling and seo is done correctly etc then i wouldnt see why not
never done it myself but i have seen plenty of sites well ranked using "the"

    yeap, do it.
"THE" isn't a bad word, especially if you do proper marketing.

this is not what he's talking about cheat
.. he means it more with a product...
i'm assuming he means if you can't have:

    computer store.com
    or
    food store.com

is it then ok to grab:
    THE Computer Store.com
    or THE Food Store.com

    (correct?)

i would also say that this depends on what you plan for the name... are you trying to flip the name at some point or are you looking to create your own business or web entity using the name?
if the latter, then you would be FINE .. but like the others have suggested, you will need to spend a little extra attention to in your marketing.

    Hope this helps :)
    Good luck to you

I would personally not recommend starting a domain name with "the" due to the quality and SEO.

Domains prefixing with 'The' are not appraised better as people use 'The' on their searches very rare.

I wouldn't...your traffic would flow to the site without "the" and will show lack of creativity

I suggest you should try harder to find another domain name with a single word .com or to register it on another extension to avoid "THE".

If for exemple "iPhone.com" is taken, "TheiPhone.com" would make you look inferior and unoriginal.

    A good exemple:

    Ghostbusters

    [IMG] VS [IMG]

These cartoons originated in the '80s. Filmation sued Columbia in 1985, and as part of the settlement the cartoon based on the 1984 movie could not simply be called Ghostbusters. So that show became The Real Ghostbusters to directly distinguish it from the Filmation show.

Back in the 80's I asked my mum to get me 'ghostbusters' cartoon video, she come back with this and i was pissed of and just thought it was a fake version, then i loved it.

If i was you, i would avoid "THE" at all cost.

    It cause confusion.

I have a website that employs "tha" in the domain name and it gets 165k Pageviews a day so I think its more about how you market the Domain rather than the domain name itself.
