I would have to go for the crappy house as well. As long as there was no MAJOR issues such as termites, etc. that could be very costly. Cars usually depreciate in value while houses are much easier to appreciate the value in. And I can't take a shower in a car very easily....

From an investment point of view you would have to buy the house, if anything it will rise in value as house prices commonly go up, the value of a car will drop everyday..

House! Investments are good no matter how crappy they are if you get some land with it

Depends where I was living at that moment. I'd probably go for the crappy house.

For those that go with the car I guess you could argue that you could live in the car and have both worlds.

Sounds pretty much 1 sided here!

I'd also go for the house. Make some modifications, do some landscaping, sell it, and then get into a bigger crappy house and do the same thing! You can make great money doing it.

Crappy house for sure. It's an appreciating asset, a car on the other hand is a depreciating asset.

A house, you can live in a house and store things, you don't need a nice car.

not even a contest, i'd rather have a crappy house. Especially if I was single, thats what I would do, I would buy a fairly crappy house, live in it, and renovate it, turn around and sell it and repeat the process.
