We all have blogs on different platforms, many of us on Blogger or Wordpress.com for free. I was wondering if Blogger or Wordpress.com were not free, how many of you would still blog and if those services went to a paid platform, how much would you pay? If there were other services using the same software (Blogger, Wordpress) but more options and theme designs, how much would you pay then?
It depends on the hosting or domain value.. .com domains is only $8+ and for hosting you can only pay for $27 but it's only limited and you can only have 4 to 5 domains on that hosting..
Well if they had some kind of package which included a domain name, somewhere around $30 per year would be reasonable ($10 for the domain name and about $2/mo. for the hosting). Since it would be like normal hosting but with more limitations. All you have is the blog, and the domain name.
That's really kind of cheap ($2 mo for hosting). What if it were like Blogger or Wordpress.com, where your blog is on a subdomain, and you also have the option of using your own domain? If Blogger and Wordpress.com stopped offering free blogs, would you pay to blog there? OR would you get your own hosting?
I'd never pay so long as Blogger and Wordpress.com have the power to disable your site due to "questionable" content.
Well the premise is that if you are paying for blog space, designs and tools, that the terms of what is allowed are set up front. You would not have the same helplessness when you are paying for a service, as you would when you are getting it for free. Normally, paying gives you certain rights and expectations, and also more control...about equal to what you would have if you hosted it yourself, just without the hassle...it's all done for you. At least this is what I'm trying to get a grasp on. I see some services charge up to $80 a month, per blog just for a little extra upload space, some premium designs and a few more tools...just wondering what the appeal would be...probably more for non-tech people that want to publish.
I guess they would never ask more than a regular host price, so most peoples would probably pay for them if no other free options would be available. The regular paid hosting services does also have the power to disable your account for "questionable" content or for other "questionable" reasons, even if you have a wordpress blog or any other kind of site, but peoples are still paying for their service. So I guess that this is not a reason to only user free services.
