Would you pay for something like this?

    Hi,
I was thinking of ways to add more value to the listings at my directory so that more people would pay to submit their sites. So I thought of adding an extra link field where submitters could add a long description of their site and allow the use of html. This field will appear in the link details page.
I haven't implemented this yet since I currently accept free listings and I am afraid that I will get a lot of spam in this field from free submitters.
So what do you think? Will this add an additional value to the listings and make more people pay for a listing?

    See example

Yes and the links will be inside text, not just plain links.

When you say allow html, do you mean the site owner could add deep links within the long site description? That would make sense, and probably add value to your directory in the process.

I will probably wait until the next PR update, however I can do it now as well manually for a fee of 5$ (I have it enabled but only in the backend). PM me if interested.

dkessaris' featured implementation is a CLASSIC example of what reputable directories should be implementing and what serious marketers should be paying for. Good Luck with your implementation dkessaris!!!

I was thinking the other day how comments would help enrich directory contents - just as they do blogs. Google never tires of new words.

But I hope you can implement a CAPTCHA and/or similar protections so you don't have to spend too much time fending off the comment spammers that bloggers have to fight.

I just tried to purchase a featured link. I completed the PayPal payment, but when I was return to your site I got an error "Error occured while paid link submission. Please try to sugget a link again."

I don't really want to go through it again since I could be charged twice. Maybe PM me.

This is eSyndicat script looks like Pro version 1.2. Most of the features that has been discussed here (comments, captcha, and many others) are standard in this version and can be enabled from the admin panel

Yes, I have had a number of people ask for this feature, and it is a good idea.
I first discovered it on MSN's directory, and then I noticed business.com was doing it too. We even wrote a mod for this for someone a while back. I think it would definitely add value for you to do this.

I have implemented dkessaris's idea but with a twist, allowing for multiple link-backs with a sponsored listing in directory. Please let me know what you think. I hope it will help with more sponsored listing signups. See the Multi Link option at http://www.leadingsolutions.com/index.php?go=addpage

    Thank you

Just a note for those reading the thread now, I have removed the example I was talking about, I wasn't talking about the comments.
