In your case does the lonliness illecit emotions, thereby helping you to write,or would the opposite be true? Can lonliness inhibit and suppress your creativity?

Well, considering I'm a technical writer I wouldn't say I'm using my emotions to support my work in that sense. Simply put some days I wish I would be doing something else, like working in a more regular work space with the standard interaction with colleagues, other days I bless the freedom and flexibility of my chosen profession. One thing is true though, in solitude, obviously with less distractions, I find it's way easier to focus on the text I write. And sometimes it would be great to have a desk neighbor to throw ideas (and nerf darts) at! ;)

There's a big difference between doing something alone and being lonely. Writing is a solitary activity, but that is totally different to being - or feeling - lonely. Lonely is when you long for company.

You can be alone and lonely, or you can be alone and content. I don't mind being alone at all, in fact I usually prefer it. I like solitude and the opportunity it gives me to think and to be myself.

I agree that for the mostpart, writing is a solitary activity. If you prefer being alone then it's all to the good. But what if a writer feels lonely when alone, and being alone helps their craft? Distractions being a detriment,so being alone would be a nessessary evil.
Would it not then be a lonely profession? And conversely be a hard way to make a living?

Hi.. Well I am a writer and yes.. It is very difficult to keep a social life while being a writer. I am a professional writer and I write for many tech websites. I am also a student and I write to pay for my college, which makes it even more tough. Studies + writing = no social life and almost always tired! :/ But I like it on the whole as it gets me money and is a flexible job.. :)

I've had more than one writer indicate to me that their chosen profession impairs their social life. I even had one writer suggest that writing is by necessity,an anti social endeavor.
