edu links are like normal links .

there is no difference from normal links.

and 35$ for a pr0 link is too expensive

I agree. Matt Cutts has said this himself on his blog.

You must keep in mind that he must keep the good of the company in mind and that everything he says should not be taken as the gold standard. However, in this case I do think he is right ;)

Many EDU domains have been around since they invented domain names. That gives them age. So if you want a GREAT link, it's not what's at the end of it, it's what's at the beginning.

Before there was the internet as we know it, there were those way cool BBS things one could log into with their baud modem. Most of those went to domain names once the WWW took off. Find those sites and get links from them....that's where the "age" can play a part ~ and many happen to be EDU sites.

Page Rank can also play a part, and of course backlinks show rank...Most established and aged sites have links all over the place from other ancient schools, from GOV sites, and from bloggers and home pages everywhere. That many links can make nearly anyone look good, and as nature would have it, most EDU inbound links are actually relevant to the topic at hand, and often will not appear to be paid!

There are several other factors which can effect the power of a link, and most of those things naturally fall under the set up of an EDU link. That does not make .edu any more powerful then a .com, as it's not the domain extension, it's how you use it.

I would forget about PR and domain name extension and buy blog posts on blogs with appropriate traffic.

I registered on my college site as an alumni, they have a social networking setup there now, with profile pages and other things. Unfortunately it's all hidden from search engines, I guess even they knew about how valued .edu based pages are :D
