I have the option of buying a .edu blog for $35 a month. I'm wondering if I could make a profit by selling sponsored posts on it. So my question is, if you had the opportunity to get a sponsored post on a .edu blog would you buy it? How much maximum would you pay? Thanks in advance for your responses
I wouldn't either. .edu links may have counted for something before but not anymore, they've been exploited too much for SERP manipulation and an .edu site selling links is just perverse! Also, it's PR0 so its either new, or has no trust at Google in my opinion.
Also, there is free ways to get .edu blogs. And the .edu extension doesn't make a website any more authoritive, it's just that many educational websites are authority so people assume it's the extension, it's not.
I thought .edu links are still hard to get. I've seen .edu guest-books with a lot of spam comments, but thats about it. Most of those guest books have hundreds of outbound links with no anchor text. Is this just your personal opinion or do you think most webmasters would find no value in a .edu link?
Isn't buying a site supposed to be a one time investment ? So where does the $35 per month come in ? As for the opportunity of buying a sponsored post, I'll need to see. There are other factors than pagerank which one needs to consider.
No, there's always value in a link, any link, even if its NOFOLLOW. But is it worth $35 per month? How many links can you buy for $35 and would one PR0 .edu link out weigh them? Not in my opinion. But that's just my opinion. There was a thread yesterday with two .edu links that might be a better option. I can't find it right now. Try this post ...
I agree. Depending on how much traffic the page gets it could be worth the money. Also, you don't know what PR this page would get after a PR update. You can use a PR predictor tool to try to have an idea if the page would ever get a decent PR. At any rate, I think $35/month might be a bit too high though.
A PR0 .edu link is the same as a PR0 .com link. It's just that people believe .edu is more authoritative, actually they're not. In general .edu websites have higher PR than .com websites, that is why people believe the links are more powerful.
You could likely make your money back, but you'd need to promote it enough to raise it's PR...and as you are renting the blog, you run the risk of them pulling the plug on you once all the promotion is done. At $35 a month you already know the person making the offer is less then reputable, so I think that the risks in the end would not make it worth it. You'd likely do better scoping out the local schools and asking around for a joint venture with some freshmen students....but then, the same risk is involved, but it would be more cost effective.
Definately agree. I also have to second that it would not be worth $35. 1) Cost/benefit: one could buy many more links for $35 for one pr0 as someone else said. 2) A pr0 link (.edu or not) is not worth $35 in and of itself.
Definately not, and yes it sounds like Adison which Google are well aware of. Already got a free link from there, it done nothing no doubt having its value nullified.
He's talking about Adison.edu. Maybe if he plans on selling links to people that don't realize that .edu has no extra benefit. If it has related content, sure, but otherwise, no benefit. I wouldn't do it.
Yeah, it was adison.edu that I was looking at. I guess its not worth it. Thanks for the advice (I'm a girl btw )
