Would you buy a high ranking site if you have to use the site's original hosting?

If I bought just the files, no problem.
BUt I believe we are talking about the site itself, the domain name.
Lots of hosts do hold domains hostage, in that you can not move the domain to another host.

 

Someone who I talked to here at Dp said that I will lose the templates, because somehow they are connected. Do you know of a better way? When I say redesign I'm just referring to using a different template.

If I lose my pr by redesigning once I've converted into html, it is worthless
