Would You Build a Real Site on .gram?

Telegram’s .gram plan sounds less like a normal TLD launch and more like a domain + profile + hosted-site bundle.

If the extension becomes available, would you actually build on it? I’d be curious about three things: whether normal DNS works, whether the domain can point to external hosting, and whether the name remains portable if the project grows outside Telegram.

For a campaign, bot or community landing page, a short .gram could be memorable. For a long-term business, I’d still want full control and portability. Would you test one?

I use newer extensions myself, so this is a question I've wrestled with in practice. The portability question nicenic raised is the decisive one — it's where Web3-style names have burned people before: a name that only resolves inside one ecosystem is rented audience, not an owned asset.

nicenic's three tests are the right ones. If normal DNS works, the name can point to external hosting, and you can transfer it out, then a short .gram makes sense for a bot or community landing page where memorability is the point. If any of those answers is no — or "not yet" — I'd still consider one, but only as a forwarding alias to a domain I fully control, never as the brand's home. For a long-term business, control and portability are the whole game; memorability without them is just a loan from Telegram.

But you don't own it like you would a .com or .net, you can't host it anywhere else and you can't transfer it. So yeah, you snatch one.gram or whatever sounds good, but if Telegram terminates your account, it's gone! At least, that's how it stands right now.
