I don't get why people with only a few pages of content plaster their blogs with Adsense. Unless you have a buttload of pages it's not even worth it. You might be waiting months before you get your first payment. However, some people blog regularly, have a lot of traffic, and receive payments every month so it makes sense to use it in this case. I personally keep Adsense on some of my blogs because it's nice to have the extra spending money, but I find that affiliate marketing is much more lucrative. I also have blogs that aren't monetized at all. I either use these as places to be creative for my own personal reasons, or as portals to increase exposure and traffic for other sites. For this reason, I would definitely be blogging even if Adsense kicked the bucket or never existed in the first place.
Morgan's Mom: I guess that's what I was trying to say. I doesn't seem worth it for 1 page blogs, with little content. Affiliate marketing is MUCH more lucrative, but it requires you to give a crap, and have some REAL content. Adsense, FOR SOME PEOPLE, seems like the easy way to throw your hat in the ring, and HOPE. Maybe it's just me...I'm either going to do it all, and succeed or fail, or not do it at all. Besides, I don't want to randomly advertise other peoples stuff on my site. What if their crap is better than mine..that few cents just cost me a reader, that may have been a repeat costumer. If you do Affiliate Marketing right, it actually can add to the content over all.
Blogging to many people is like posting on a forum like this, i.e., they don't do it for the money. As has been mentioned, if they wanted to, and didn't have adsense, they could use commission programs etc. As for your comments in post 8, I agree to a certain extent, but for some people (as has also been mentioned) adsense is a first step.
AdSense is definitely valuable, but its not the be all and end all. There are other programmes out there that can help monetize blogs.
Adsense is good for blogs, and is a solid supplemental income to my current blogs... but other advert programs make up the majority of my income.. adsense is probably like 10%
Adsense has made me a very small amount on my Blogs - there are much better ways to make money blogging than relying on adsense. Setting up your blog and when it is a few months old with several pages is probably an easy way for you to then apply and get accepted to Adsense, but don't rely on it to be your main income stream - in fact, whatever method you choose to monetise your blog or any site make sure you have several methods of earning from it. Affiliate marketing and other advertisers are another couple of ways of earning. My motivation for blogging has never been to earn a few clicks from adsense and yes, where it doesn't detract from my blog I put adsense on it.
For me. Some blog use adsense, but some blog not. why? because its depend on the mainidea of blog. Which blog for money, which blog for community and share idea(with out advertise)
Well, I don't want anyone to think I'm a hypocrite. I certainly would like to make some coin, but it's not my main focus. I'm just under the belief that if I make it the best I possibly can, I may sell a few things. The particular blog I'm on now, is the first one that is not related to my job, more of a passion and a hobby. It is monetized but I think it wouldn't be complete if I didn't complete the picture. I don't think adsense does that for anybody, it's just...ads, for the sake of having ads. I just always wondered if people who do strive to make money have a complete picture of the wealth of ideas that they can capitalize on. It makes me uncomfortable to depend on one entity, especially *cough* Google, for the whole "kit and caboodle". They don't care if I make money, they only care enough for me to have the tools to make them money. But with that said, nobody is going to care if you make money, except for you. To answer my own question, I would do this blog with out without monetization, it just so happens that, I think what I offer on it, adds to the content. I'm in it because I love the subject matter, and everyone else is doing it wrong.
