If i buy a few keywords that don't cost much, then direct the clicks to a page with articles about mortgages and credit cards etc, with more google ads....ie something totally unrelated. Will people click on the ads to give me a profit? After all credit cards, loans and mortgages pay out really well. Or is this against google TOS?
No, won't work. Buying $.05 keywords for something like "children's playground equipment" and sending them to mortgage ads will just waste your money and result in frustration. Now, people do buy cheaper keywords, for something longtail like "exotic home mortgages bisbee arizona" and send them to more expensive ads or affiliate stuff. But even then, the mortage niche is so oversaturated, I bet that even the most bizarre keywords have been covered. If you want to do that, try a niche that a less saturated.
Its a bad idea that will also result in a very poor quality score for your keyword due to its lack of relevancy
My guess is you'd get a lot of clicks, pay a lot of money, and get no sales, even if they don't have to buy anything. Now, regular arbitrage CAN work (sending people to something similar to what they're searching for), but you need to be careful and set it up right so you don't pay too much, as otherwise you'll be making a loss at best on each click. -T
see quality score it will ask you for a minimum bid of 10$!!! Also think like a user, if you are searching for holidays and you click and ad and the only thing you see is credit cards, are you going to apply for one?? I dont think so.
Even if you manage to find these 'cheap words' (which are unrelated and active), chances are if they are totally unrelated, Google will make them inactive soon. Your ad though, when you are buying 'long tail' words, needs to be very specific to your product and not the keyword (unless you can relate them), otherwise you will get a very 'bad quality' traffic.
