I have registrered 4 domains, where 1st is reflecting name of our firm and other domains are "SEO domain" (include keywords we would love to rock with in the name of domain)

    Ok plan is:

1.) We redirect (301) all those domains to our primary domain?

    OR

2.) We put on each of this domain same content?

What's better, what would you do? Will we be penalyzed from google for same content (content duplication)??

    THANKS FOR ALL ANSWERS!

Both approaches are worthless... You are MUCH better off focusing on making your main site rank. Simply buying a domain with the keyword you want to rank for as the domain (keyword.com) and 301 redirecting it to your domain does absolutely nothing. A 301 simply passes PR and credit for inbound links to the target of the redirect... Guess what? You keyword.com has zero inbound links... It has only the miniscule amount of PR that every page gets when Google first discovers it, but the page will never exist in Google's index because the 301 tells them to remove keyword.com from their index and replace it with your main domain.

Having 4 sites with the same content is a terrible idea as well. 1st 3 copies of each page will be flagged as duplicate content and only 1 will be considered the original. Some pages on example1.com will be dubbed origina, some from example2.com will be original, some from example3.com will be original, and some from your main site will be original... But you won't know which... And now you have to build links for 4 sites instead of focusing on 1 site... You just increased your link development efforts times 4+... not to mention 4 times the site maintenance.

Build one site... focus on it. If you build another site then it should have its own unique content. But realize that doing so means that your focus, time, efforts will be split over multiple sites so you won't accomplish as much.

There's little point in using 301s on new domains, unless you think that people are actually going to type in those domains into the address bar. From an SEO point of view though it's useless as those domains have not built up any ranking or backlinks.

Neither should you duplicate content on different domains, as you will get penalised by Google for this.

Maybe put blogs on the other domains, and link back to your main site every now and then... depends on how much time you've got.

@Canonical - Yet another great post. Was being asked about registering additional domains for SEO purposes and wasn't sure of the answer. What you've said makes perfect sense.

Would having an additional site focusing on a particular part of your business (with unique content etc) be useful? Yes, you would be increasing your SEO workload but the site could target more specific keyphrases than the main website couldn't it?
