Would this layout work for my wordpress site?

Hi, I was wondering if I could have some opinions as to whether this layout for my blog would work, and how it could be improved...

The layout is having a categories section for my articles with closed comments on all of them. I would also have a section where a different post type would be displayed, in which visitors could test their knowledge of what they learned at my site. Each of these "test your knowledge" posts would have a related article, and would have open comments. Not all of the articles I write will be appropriate to have a "test your knowledge" post to go along with it, so some articles will receive no comments.

This setup intrigues, and worries me, as the website is just starting out. Should I allow comments until I get enough audience so that comments won't be helpful to my blog as much, or should I use this setup and stick with it? Please help!

It's up to your preferences but as starters, i believe you should allow comments so that you get to understand your audience better.

I'd agree it might be best to keep comments open, since then readers can ask questions about the content which may help highlight gaps in your coverage of the topic. Since it sounds like this is specifically an educational site it's always useful to know what exactly people are struggling with.

The setup itself sounds reasonably good, personally I would use Drupal for something like this since it's just easier to set up in weird ways and relate content to each other and whatnot, but WordPress should handle it fine once it's all set up.
