When creating an account or editing your preferences for the keyword tracker tool (here) the form asks for your Google API key, then proceeds to say:

"If you don't have a Google API key, you can get one for free by clicking here."

Unfortunately, when you follow that link, Google fails to tell you that they no longer provide SOAP API keys, instead they log you in (or have you create a Google Account) and then dump you at code.google.com. A sequence of events that left me (and many others before me - proof to follow) searching through code.google for the right API key with no idea it is no longer available (and nothing at all appearing in code.google).

It's not until we search elsewhere (result #3) for this elusive key that we end up stumbling on this old thread which indicates there are many more people going through the exact same process and explains to us that the form is actually asking for a key that you can no longer obtain through Google, and then providing a broken link which is sending users on a wild goose chase.

I'm not mad, just hoping that if I took you on the ride that it would get someone to pass it on to a person who can edit the form and patch that hole.

    :)
