Would someone be able to answer a few questions about scripts?

I admit - I know next to nothing about scripts (how embarrassing), so would someone be able to enlighten me on a few things?

    1. What do they generally do? What kind of power do they have?

    2. When people ask for certain website clone scripts, what are they asking for?

    3. Where is a good place to learn about them?

    4. Is there a such thing as a script that can automatically aggregate news articles about a certain topic, and place them onto a website with a certain layout?

Your help is greatly appreciated on this!

1.Scripts are so called softwares or programmes that powers a dynamic website. For example this forum is running because of a php script vbulletin. As you see scripts uses certain 'languages' like php, asp, ruby on rails etc
    2. Clone scripts mimic the functions ( and somewhat appearance ) of popular sites like dating, social networking
    3. In this forum itself.
    4. Yes.

In addition to the above answers:

    1) They are software programs that do various things either on a website or locally on your computer. Most scripts are not well maintained, have lots of bugs but there are some good ones out there, that can really help you get your business going. For example, I am using the Wordpress blog script to power my website (in my signature).

    2) If someone asks for a MySpace clone, they are looking for a script that will power a website that looks similar to MySpace. Of course, this is wishful thinking. Millions of dollars have gone into developing MySpace, and someone is looking either for a free or low-cost version. Life should be so easy. ;)

    3) This forum is a great place to learn about scripts. But be careful of all offers. It is easy for someone to advertise a script and get money for it, and either a) not really own it b) not support it if it has bugs c) over advertise its capabilities. HotScript.com has tons of scripts - some of which are worthwhile.

    4) Yes. If you go to the Content Management subforum of this forum, you can read all about scripts and other content managers that do these kind of things. It is often done on many sites.

    Hope this helps,
    Rich

Yep. I learned the hard way. It was only $15 lost, but I did learn that there is no where to turn for assistance - not Paypal, not DP, nowhere. The money is gone. If I ever do a transaction, I will definitely never use PayPal again. They exist solely to help out the rip-off artists, since the guys who advertise know that once the PayPal transaction goes through, there is no way to retrieve it. My days of buying scripts on DP ended when I figured this out.

You should take a look at www.Hotscripts.com. It's the best resource for seeing what's available.
