I have highlighted all the places where I have tried to optimize my site with keywords in the following image: http://www.dealoverflow.com/spammyseo.jpg I have optimized it for the product name and what type of product(antec tp-ii, power supply) in the following ways: 1. Title displays product name 2. URL contains product name 3. Product name is in the Article Title 4. Type of Product is italicized(power supply deals) 5. Type of Product is bolded(power supply deal) 6. Name of product is mentioned once again in paragraph 7. A link is provided with the product name in the anchor tag 8. There is a picture with an alt tag that contains the product name Would this be considered spammy or effective? I thought this would be effective, but I haven't received much traffic from search engines, maybe 1% of my traffic is from search engines. I just attempted to SEO this site, though, so maybe the spiders haven't caught it?
No, I think you're fine. I would also suggest doing the following: 1. Change "Link to Power Supply" to just "Power Supply" or, even better "Antec Power Supply at CompUSA." The words "Link to" in your HREF aren't doing you any good. 2. Change "Link to $30 Rebate" to "Power Supply $30 Rebate" for the same reason as above. Looks like a good site, and you're actually competing with one of mine (http://www.thebargaingarden.com) which is similar in nature...maybe I shouldn't submit this post... See you at the top of the SERPS (hopefully)!
What would be some other methods of further optimizing my site? Should I optimize more towards Antec Power Supply Deals or more towards Power Supply Deals?
You can introduce a titletag with your alt tag. The H1 is crucial. Also in your plain text use <strong>power supply</strong> or <b> tags can work.
What do you mean use a title tag with an alt tag? Do you mean the following: Also, for the words PNY 512MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory for $10 AR @ TigerDirect would you say to optimize for "pny ram deals", "pny ram deal"? My current format for displaying article name is "Product Name" for Price @ Merchant, when I optimize should I use "PNY 512MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory for $10 AR @ TigerDirect" as the product name in the article title or something less descriptive like "PNY 512MB Memory Deal @ TigerDirect"
I'm not sure we can give you advice on what keywords to use. That should come from researching: 1. How many searches are done on the keywords 2. How many results each keyword search has in the SEs you're targeting
I just analyzed one of the articles I just posted and the following were the results: Word Repeats Density 187 26 7.72 digital 15 4.45 card 11 3.26 secure 9 2.67 speed 9 2.67 mach 7 2.08 deal 6 1.78 512mb 6 1.78 com 6 1.78 view 5 1.48 I was optimizing for secure digital card. If I used the code &187; for >> would that affect anything?
Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question. However, what tool are you using that tells you the keyword density? Thanks!
I was using the Keyword Density Analyzer from pagerank.net http://www.pagerank.net/keyword-density-analyzer/ I'm currently using an h1 tag for the "full product name for price @ blah", should I make some h2 and h3 tags that look like regular text? The term is placed in the deal article around 8 times. I've been using italics, h1, strong, bold, mostly bold and strong tags, though. Should I modify h2 and h3 tags to act like bold tags or do search engines recognize this?
Good discussion, great to see people sharing their knowledge freely. I hear a lot about h1 tags, but I am not sure they make as much difference as people claim.
As long as you do not deceive the viewer to optimize the movements, not to deceive search engine, generally will not be punished.
