Assuming a regular page, say 20 external links, 10 internal navigation links kind of page? Would getting one link from this PR6 page make the target page a PR5? (and by extension, would one similar PR7 make my site a PR6) Thanks
I would say that it depends on whether the pr6 site thht links to you is relevant to your site. But even than i think you need more than one if your niche is pretty common.
according to Bob Wakfer's chart at http://www.compar.com/infopool/articles/PR-calculation.html you would need 3.339 such pr6 links assuming no other inbound links to your site.
I would say that it might make you a PR3-PR4, but depending on how that PR6 got its rank, it might not help at all. Far too many times I've seen PR5 and PR6 sites not transfer anything. Also, does your site have any PR yet at all? That may also be a determining factor of your actual PR. KG
I've had one PR5 site make a brand new site a PR4. It was the only link going into the site. I think it depends on the quality of the referring site but it is possible from what I've seen through experience.
Only if you already have a page rank of 5 are you certain to go to a 6 if you get your link on a pr 6 page.
Hey, thanks for all the great answers. Would all the opinions remain the same if my question was "Would One PR7 make my site PR6?"
It all has to do with the strength of the PR page you're getting a link from and the # of outgoing links. In general, if you want a PR6 from a PR7, you need to be the only link or one of very few, unless that PR7 is more like a 7.9.
The 1 PR7 link for PR6 seems innacurate to me unless you were the only outbound link on that page... and it was the homepage. :|
I don't think anything is certain... From what I can see, it is becoming very difficult to get and stay above a PR6.
If there were less links on the page and it was not a low PR6, from what we've experienced, it may make the target page a PR5. Otherwise I would expect that the target page would be a PR4. I seriously doubt that relevance or other factors as suggested here are part of the PageRank equation.
You're partially right about PR. The only factor that matters to achieve PR is inbound links, and the strength of those links. However the effectiveness of that link in the SERPs highly depends on the relevance. There's no point in getting high PR links if they're not focused on helping you in the SERPs.
i had a site with just 10 pr5 links pointing to it. And it has become a pr5 straight away. But in most of the cases, i will get a pr5 if im getting 1 pr6 + a few pr5 +a few pr4. This is just an observation for my sites.
Partially right? Maybe you're missing something - the OP's question is regarding the transfer of PageRank and doesn't mention anything regarding relevance or SERPs, neither of which contribute to PageRank.
The main reason people are concerned with PR is because they think it will help their traffic or ranking in the SERPs. I was just emphasizing that unrelevant PR links will do much less than relevant PR links. Google may eventually rank PR based on relevance of a link as well as the PR, which would make more sense. It's good to prepare for anything that comes.
Once again, the OP's concern was not about relevance, traffic, ranking or SERPs. Can we get back on topic?
I got a pr6 link to my site and it made a pr5. I have alot of 3s and 4s aswell but I have no doubt that the 6 was what pushed it over the edge.
