I have been trying to setup a product on Clickbank for a few weeks now and finally I have it there, live. I would love some feedback on the site, so overall look, what would you change, is the layout and copy OK, should I include anything else? etc I really would love this site to be a success. I have made only three sales so far but would obviously love to make more. Not many people seem to be promoting it, possibly because the price of $7 is too low and they don't stand to make so much out of the 50% commission rate. Personally I think I won't make any sales if I raise the price, even though I feel the product is worth more than that. http://www.chancetolearn.com I appreciate anyone taking the time to review the site.
I just took a quick look. Not a bad looking landing page at all. I'm just a Peon, but here are my thoughts... "Chance to Learn" strikes me as an awkward phrase. Fine, I think, for your domain name, but I would advertise the actual product with jazzier name - something like "The Great Giant Master Quiz Collection." I wouldn't hesitate to pile on the hyperbole. Yes, seven dollars is an odd amount. Where price is concerned, I'd say go big or go small. Since there's not much point in selling this for a buck or two, you should charge more, but (and here's the rub) there should be much more than the 1,500 questions, I think. From a psychological standpoint, 1,500 items for $7 doesn't excite me as much as 5,000 items for $15.95. I looked through some of the sample questions and wasn't blown away. They're inconsistent in terms of format and difficulty... some have answers, some don't; and so on. Also, I'm in California, and from your questions I'm reasonably certain that you're not... what the heck is a "metre?" A "Mexican wave?" Also, why offer the material in multiple formats like that? It seems like you weren't quite sure what you wanted to do, so you did everything. PDF's alone should be fine, or HTML that could be viewed with a browser. Not everyone on the planet uses Microsoft Word (although sometimes it seems so). With your bonus quizzes, you're offering some as PDFs and some in Word format? Again, be consistent. And don't offer the promises of more bonuses "from time to time." Too vague. Tell the people what they're going to get and then give it to them in one fell swoop. Finally, you should check your spelling and punctuation very carefully before putting these pages up. My eye went immediately to the word "immediatly" (misspelled, obviously), and automatically that called the quality of your product into question. Hope this helps!
I liked the look of your landing page and actually think that the product is well worth it for $7. BTW a metre - correct ENGLISH spelling - what do Americans know !!! (Just offended 99% of you then !!). Whereabouts is it in CB ?
Thanks for the replies, I really do appreciate you taking the time to check out the site, useful feedback indeed. Firstly I should add that the site is primarily aimed at Pub Quizmasters who are generally not based in the USA and in fact the questions all contain the British English spelling throughout. Although immediately was indeed spelt incorrectly - top prize goes to Filmwonk for spotting that one. Also, the questions really are quite difficult, even for a good pub quiz team member, but that's my selling point, there are too many easy quizzes online and most of the free ones are really too simply to even bother with. I don't want to give as examples only the tough ones as most people will run a mile from the page altogether, hence the varied levels of questions. You are right however Filmwonk, I should answer all of the example questions - will do that tomorrow when I get some more time. The easiest way to find it in the marketplace at Clickbank is to search for "quiz" in the search box. It is located exactly under: 1: Fun & Entertainment » Games 2: Fun & Entertainment » Hobbies which were the two most applicable categories I could locate. The reason why I chose $7 as a price is that there appears to be a growing trend of $7 products on the site, partly due to 7dollaroffers.com and 7dollarsecrets.com both by Jon Ledger, a legend in internet marketing. My problem is that $7 and 50% commission might not entice the affiliate to promote the site as all they would get is $3.50. The danger in raising the price is that the quizmasters might not buy the product. Also, 1500 very good questions is quite a feat in itself, 5000 is near impossible/suicidal. I think I will include a reason as to why $7 was the chosen price, if I can keep the page down to a minimum without padding it out too much. I don't want the visitor to fall asleep reading it though either. Actually, I don't stand to make too much from each sale as I share ALL income 50:50 with the guy who writes the questions, the so-called Quiz Master pictured on the site. He spends all day every day researching questions for his quiz either in the library or online and that is his job, he is well-known in Germany for hosting and writing the best pub quiz around. Hence why we decided to put his efforts online and hopefully reward his efforts further. The reason why there are multiple formats, which I should also share on the landing page really, is that quizmasters will want to remove the questions they have used from the source document so that they dont repeat themselves. You cant do that with a PDF and its not so easy for many people doing that in HTML. Hence I provide the .txt and Microsoft word formats too for them to download any of them and do what they want with them. As you rightly say, not everyone has Microsoft word, hence the .txt format. I will definitely rethink the name of the quiz pack, try and gloss it up a bit. I use the domain chancetolearn.com because I have had that domain with no use for it for a few years and its kinda applicable to the product. Anyway, thanks again
Cool, Ill promote that tomorrow. A couple of tips i've thought of is keep the page short as you have said, add a couple of example questions. Possibly put the price up to $10 because $10 seems nice than $7 for some reason when reading it. You can also says it .05c a question which you can use to your..blah blah blah. Thanks
what exactly are you selling? why should the user continue reading past the fold? make me interested in the first 5 seconds that I land on you page.
As a follow up, I wasn't aware of the whole Pub Quizmasters phenomenon.(Again, I'm in California, so what do I know?) Now that I know that that is your target demographic, the other things (the number of questions, the multiple formats) make perfect sense. Maybe you could the appeal of the product to the pub quizmasters a bit clearer? Appeal directly to them? ATTENTION - PUB QUIZMASTERS Tired using dull, unimaginative questions in your competitions? We have the answer! Announcing the new GOLD STANDARD in QUIZMASTER BOOKS! 1,500 Questions fresh from one of the greatest minds in trivia! Take a look inside...
Thanks Guys, I have taken your feedback onboard and adjusted the page as I feel best: new intro to try to capture the audience 'above the fold', answers to all example questions. Will tweak a tad more later. Thanks again, Dave
I think that looks great!... and not just because you took my advice! You've identified your target right from the get-go, and you've got that terrific banner up top... good job!
Thanks Filmwonk. I have posted a similar initial question to another forum for review and one poster there reckons the page is a bit too bare. Personally I prefer a bare page to a packed page, the latter being more confusing in my opinion. Anyway, I don't think I want to add any more banners or boxes or even graphics to the page. I even think that more text would clutter the whole page up too much. Can anyone suggest somewhere other than adwords where I can promote the site? I will shortly contact quiz sites and suggest they have a look at the affiliates page, after I have produced some flashy banners and perhaps even some promo copy. I still really think the lacking activity from affiliates is dure to the low price and the fact that they stand only to make a few dollars from a successful referral.
You say, "DON'T BUY QUIZ QUESTIONS FROM ANYONE ELSE HAVE A LOOK AT OUR QUESTIONS FIRST !!! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED !!!" But you haven't shown some sample questions.
Lose the links at the top of the page. Just do a headline and bring them straight into the content. I found myself trying to figure out the navigation and never made it to the content. Remember us surfers have low attention spans.....like 0.1 seconds.
Wow, I'd never have realized that the "trivia questions" market would be so big.. lol. The site itself looks very nice - wouldn't change a thing. But $7.. Why not 2 packs at $9,95 for 750 questions , or one for $14,95 for all 1,500 questions? Might make it look like there's more to it.
Thanks for your advice but i still have to stay competitive, many quiz packs are available on ebay for more questions at a cheaper price. But I have seen these packs in the past and their quality is not so good. Anyway, I have added a few hundred more questions since my last post and some more bonus items, surely that has to be a bargain! Also, i found out that most of my sales have been via the direct link and not via the hoplink, hence I got all the commission but the referred rate decreased like crazy (I was referring to that site directly through another one of my sites rather than using the hoplink - a quick email to clickbank has proven that I should rather include my affiliate ID TWICE in the hoplink to guarantee that the referral rate changes with every sale that I generate - you learn something every day!). I believe it is the referral rate that is scaring every affiliate away, as well as the low commission. I have upped the commission rate to 55%, so that for 'quiz' sales an affiliate can earn more than the other competitor on clickbank. Just wondering what else I can do to promote the site, any ideas? PPC? (Adwords?) Perhaps some articles might help.
increase perceived value of your offer, and communicating it effectively. then increase prices. you need a high profit margin to go on PPC, 7$ is too low a ticket item to make any significant money. if you're not willing to increase prices then set up a sales funnel that captures their e-mail so you can make money on the back-end as well.
Thanks for your analysis drkirby, I have taken some of your advice. I have now raised the price to $10 for the quiz pack with 60% going to the affiliate (even though the Marketplace does not seem to update with that info). So for every referred sale, the affiliate makes $6 and I make $4 less the CB fees. $6 is not too bad is it? I will also try to improve the sales copy a little when I get some chance.
