I know for a fact that you can pay certain editors for listings. Trolling? Maybe, but it is true that some of the editors can be "persuaded" to get your site listed. I've seen it happen.

It's too bad such a good project is getting a bad name because of a few greedy editors. Somebody needs to do some housecleaning there before the search engines get wind of the corruption and remove the authority status from dmoz.

DMOZ is a free web directory you don't need to pay, still, the quality of your website matters, be it free or paid directory, paying for your submission is not a guarantee for acceptance. Unless you are going to corrupt some editors in their as Fervid mentioned which is very unethical.

If you are willing to pay, why don't you just go to yahoo directory, there will be no problems if your website has quality :).

Yes thiis thread could open a can of worms :) However, I still value dMOZ listing (accusations and corruption aside) and I believe that at this point the FREE platform aint working right. Whats the point of waiting for years to see your listing appear on their index? I believe Netscape should make it PAID and (may be) pour a part of the earned revenue into hiring dedicated editors and the rest into some kinda cause...environmental or social.

This would not only improve its quality but also would it generate funds for some organization fighting for a cause!

Really? You mean, you know actual editors who got paid? Did you report them?

I would say the authority status of all directories has long ago been reduced by the SEs, DMOZ included.

Yahoo's not worth the money IMO. A page of mine is there and I get almost no traffic from them. Fortunately, I didn't have to pay - it's a non-commercial page.

Why does it take soooo long to get listed legit? Very annoying to wait and wonder if they even received your submission!

There are plenty of DMOZ editors here. I would not recommend to post url and asking about pay someone to get your site being listed in DMOZ. Your site has a high chance to be marked as "Red List" instead of being listed. If your site is in the list - Your site would never be able to be approved by any MODs in DMOZ.

I don't know who the editor was. I used to work for a company who ran a bunch of entertainment sites. Most of us had our own little networks going on the side too which was encouraged by our employer. Another coder and I who shared an office had very similar networks and we would exchange ideas and help all the time. Anyway, he posted on a freelancing website that he wanted to get a couple of URLs listed in dmoz. He got a reasonable bid from someone who said he could make it happen so he was "hired" to do the job. Within a week or so the links were listed.

I don't have any interest in reporting anyone for anything. I'm just annoyed when I see some of the holier-than-thou editors pretending that dmoz is perfect and infallible. I'm sure most of the editors are honest but to deny that there is corruption is naive.

What is your problem? I just warned you because there are plenty DMOZ editor here and I do not want your site to get any troubles. Why don't you just search here in DP to read some reply from DMOZ editor about things you are doing? That "Red List" is not mine but it is a way DMOZ editor called. I have no intention to make you scare or something.

You may consider to ask and do this similar offering in freelancer sites like Getafreelancer, Guru or else. You would be safe more than just asking here with posted your url.

It's up to you buddy, I won't call you BS anyway.

Assume that it has already been flagged by a DMOZ editor as offering a payment. The site does not even look listable to me, so assume that you are not going to get listed ever because its either a non-listable site or its been flagged as offering to pay to get in. No editor will want to risk touching it now.

Dmoz would not list your site in current form. If they did it would only devalue Dmoz further.
