Would Joomla be my best bet for this?

For promoting affiliate products, i mean promoting actual products from the affiliate programs and networks and not the CPA offers that a lot of people do.

While i think a simple landing page is fine for promoting certain things, im looking for something to work with that is more ideal to listing multiple products, for example watches, clothing, kitchen appliances.

Wordpress seems ok, but more if your writing up reviews with a pic, affiliate link to the product, but not ideal.

I have less need, actually no need for the usual navigation, only linking to certain pages in the footer, because thats how its done :) with landing pages to not distract the potential buyer.

I want the ability to easily dedicate a page to each product, with the image, talking them into buying text and a buy now button sot of layout, i have no need for a login, shopping cart or anything.

Just been having a look on a joomla template site, i like the look of some available templates, very professional looking, are joomla templates difficult to put together? any decent tutorials on that?

I have in the last couple of years looked at joomla, checked out what was available at the time.

If your using joomla to promote affiliate products id be happy to hear how you get on with joomla itself.

So what do you think, suitable for my needs?

Joomla has some great templates. I'm not sure I would use it to create small affiliate sites targeting only one or two companies. It's a bit of work to set up. However if you like a template it's not a ton of work to set up a "shell" then use a backup program to create your own affiliate template then just restore that on a new host or domain.

My biggest complaint is it is annoying to update Joomla sites. WP 2.7 makes the update process much easier.

I use Joomla on several projects. But right now I am using Wordpress 2.7 as a basic CMS with drop down navigation menus. Quicker and easier to manage. But the real strength with WP is that it's simply easier for me to promote a blog.

Joomla also lacks built in commenting which may not be of use to you for your project. It also lacks the ability to assign a post/page to multiple categories.

That said, I think Joomla is really a better platform when it comes to manipulating data and easily moving promotions or turning them off and on. Lots of flexibility with the way you can present data within the template.

    Give it a shot.

Yeah that one thing that sort of pulls be back towards WP more, overall easier, i read often that Joomla takes a bit of getting used to.

Il still take a look though, dont want to ignore it incase i end up actually liking Joomla.

I do not recommend joomla for anything or for any reason. Even though joomla is popular, it is not secure. Putting joomla on a server is like putting up a big sign that says "please hack my site".

If you want a secure solution, I would start with Drupal. If you want a second solution besides Drupal, take a look at wordpress.

i dont think that joomla is that much easier to hack .... otherwise it cant be popular ... but just condition is use stable version . and dont use untrusted plugins and all. wordpress is another good solution and in 2.7 they have updated very much. good user interface.
