I'm building a site right now, but I'm more in to web design not a coder. The thing is I'm having a problem with how to create a search engine. I want to build the site that can do search like vimeo that got a clear section of search like group,community,video,people that you can see on the right top bar and I'm wondering do they build their own search engine or do they use any kind of search engine service like google? and if they using their own, would it be hard to create one? cause I'll be running the site alone cause I dont have enough money to hire a developer T_T EDIT: Forgot to say thanks :-P
If you don't know what you're doing and have no coding experience then it's best to find a pre-made system that meets your needs. There are several threads already in regards to social networking software packages, do a search through this board.
I doubt on the "Search Engine". Why not use google sitesearch for your website http://www.google.com/sitesearch/ or even custome search http://www.google.com/cse/
A good CMS is what you are searching for. With a good cms we can do custom searches. In my knowledge Drupal is the best content management system that is capable of doing anything we see in websites today. My suggestion is to use drupal 7 for your project.
I agree with you. It is easy to use & update You can update your own site when you want - where you want - without fuss. No need to get your web designer to do it for you.
