If someone hotlinks his site with mine, would that be considered as a backlink (in SEO perspective) by google, and would that help in SEO in anyways ? Another quest - lot of sites says not to hotlink, so is there any disadavantage if we do that? I mean how exactly can a hotlink help or trouble the hotlink site and the hotlinked one ?

it was a good read indeed. some quests are however unanswered there : 1. if i hotlink a site xyz (say a pic) , would that be counted as a backlink to xyz from my site? 2. what about sites like youtube? they look ok with ppl hotlinking with them - they also have a 'share this video link' option out there 3. except for the original site lossing its bandwidth, how else hotlinking is - AS PER SEO PERSPECTIVE ? how good or bad is it for the hotlinking site or the hotlinklined one ?
