If you could get a link on a PR8 page which has just 25 outbound links in total but that link may only last a day or two would you go for it? What benefit if any would this link have? Btw, this link would't cost me anything.
I'm unable to answer that question but if the PR8 link's content matches with your site's theme it would do a world of good for ranking.
You could check how often Google is indexing the site. If it returns once a day then its probably worth it
A link like that would be worthless unless Google just happened to update that day and give you a bit of PR. In anycase, if you are looking for SERP results, don't chase a high PR name that only gives you a link for a day or two.
I am pretty sure Googlebot crawls the site constantly so it will pick up on the link. And i was thinking about using it to get currently un-indexed pages indexed.
Generally it could or could not be usefull, but in my opinion it wont help you, it could be because of the factor (link aging & disappearing link).
Definately not, Google might not even see the backlink in one day, links should be permenant for best effect, and it would take some time before it alters your ranking, but you might get some traffic from it. If a googlebot did see it, it would probably just crawl all you deep pages and indexed them, but no alterations to SERPS would happen.
High PR sites or links drives more traffic.. It doesn't affect your rankings....'coz PR is a different factor in terms of rankings...
(IMO) I don't think having a backlink with PR8 and with a good traffic in just a day could affect your rankings but it could give you some traffic especially if its related to your site, but then don't expect to give you more than what you wanted.. Because as you said.. that backlink will only last for a day or two..
Thanks for the input guys. I ask because it is quite easy to get onto high PR pages of www.netscape.com and I have been experimenting with this today. Not a great deal of traffic so I guess the impact will be quite minimal.
It won't harm you. This is what it will get you: 1. PR8 are indexed by google in less than 12 hours so you will have a backlink. 2. PR8 will get you traffic, depending on where your link is placed. It won't help pagerank or anything, since it is for 1 day.
Even if you could get a link on the netscape site, it would only count if Google indexed that page. But tomorrow, when Google indexed that page, your link would be gone. Therefore, Google would not register the link as a "back link" and it would have no value. But you would get traffic from the netscape site which would be good for one day only. This is the basic concept as Press Releases, Social Blogs, etc.
