Would google remove a site because of self-promotion on forums?

Just wondering... would google remove a site cause of self promotion... let say you have a valuable free resource and post on relevant message boards.. Is this considered "spam" and does google penalize sites that have BL's from message boards?

I guess an article would be considered self-promotion too and many people post articles with duplicate self-promotion content all day long .. what do you guys think?

Is this white hat or black hat?

I haven't found posting at DigitalPoint, phpBuilder or any of the other forums to have a negative effect on my sites, even though the theme differs.

Such links are only devaluated - rather than causing a penalty by SEs, especially G.

It is your right to promote your website through any accepted way.And self-promotion on forums are not against TOS.

    They sure would!

Man Ebay is a great place to shop! So is Amazon.

Waits patiently for both to be removed from SERPS
