You mean you have an article on your site and you submitted it as well on ezinearticles?

If so, then no. A related thread comes along:

    forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=73637

I am sure many of the articles posted on those article submission sites are also found elsewhere.

I do not believe there is a duplicate content penalty, per se. At worst, Google might filter out what it determines to be duplicate content, but that's not the same thing as a penalty.

Other submissions might not appear on search engine results since they are duplicates but it does not mean your site that hosts the original article be penalized. Search engines have a way to determine which among the pages carry enough weight to appear on search engine results, if any.

I am against you on this one, we've been writing an article recently, to see if it's ok for links, it works superb. And when I search the article title + author name I get all the directories where we've been submitting the article (around 200)
I don't really believe google is penalizing for duplicate content (articles), maybe it penalizes duplicates websites only.

Sorry but I did not mention Google will impose penalty on duplicate articles. I said "MIGHT not" appear on SERPs.

I don't think google will "penalise" your site because text from your site is also available elsewhere. It's not the "whole/ mirror" site but just a few 1000 words from 1 site/page.
Their webmaster guidelines talk about duplicate filter under the section of "mirror sites" where it's the "exact" site hosted under different domains, (.COM, .CO.UK versions etc.)
Shouldn't be a problem with just a few articles on "completely different" sites

    great question by the way,

Was wondering, how about if you had an interesting article on your site and you were hoping to rank well with it, and somebody else likes the article and posts it on his site? I mean, it wouldn't be illegal or immoral if the text is referenced and there's credit to the author, but would that decrease the odds of getting ranked well now that there dup info out there???

Whoever picked your "text" either is a better site in which case you get a back link from a better respected site or is just another site in the pool in which case you still got a back link. Both cases you increased your back link count and probably visitors also.
Somebody should ask mattcutts about how google will act on this...

    regards

I've always had the best results when I write separate articles for my websites and submission to the article directories. It doesn't really take much time, and you can more-or-less rewrite existing articles, i.e. include the same content, but in different words. I feel this provides the "best of both worlds" - creating backlinks from the article directories and other Webmasters' sites, as well as assuring unique content on my own sites.

Truthfully I don't really want the same article on my site listed somewhere else. What I have been doing is the same thing mentioned above.

I write one article for the different directories. I am then reworking, rewording those articles for site. It is basically says the same thing and once it is written it doesn't take that much time to reword.

The only thing I make sure to do is to include the keywords I'm chasing and make sure that I don't change the frequency.
