I was looking to start a Adwords campaign and was wondering if anyone knew if google would have a problem with this. I was thinking of creating a landing page promoting a certain product for which I am giving away a free e-book if they sign up for my newsletter (i would use something like aweber for people to sign up). This way Id build an email list for future marketing. I would be using inexpensive long-tail keywords....yeah I know the traffic isnt significant unless you throw craploads of these keywords together, but I figure its a cheap way to get leads.... I thought I read somewhere (I may have misunderstood, so I thought Id ask), that google penalizes you if your landing page has some type of opt-in in order to access content. Is this true? Would my site get their attention??? Thank you all in advance...
You do need to be a bit careful right now, especially with Adwords looking harshly upon thin content landing pages and becoming concerned with affiliate links and various other schemes.
@james - thank you.. hopefully it pays dividends @southampton - i was looking to make it more than a simple landing page with thin content...was thinking of having multiple pages throughout the site which relate to the niche i am promoting, maybe throw in a video clip for good measure.
Hi Stu, It's worth trying. I haven't heard of any explicit instances where someone has been penalized. I'd say to just be clear, consistent and on the up-and-up. Watch the account to see if you get dinged for anything - personally I think you'll be ok. Just make sure if you mention something for free in your ad, it's available on the page where you direct the traffic.
Thanks I figured I would be OK since I am at least trying to do things the right way instead of putting out something spammy/scammy
