This is just something i have thought of after trying to find out what happenend when one of my sites dropped off the google serps...

Would google penalize a site for having swear words on its home page?

I have been tryin to figure out why google all of a sudden totally dropped my site for all the keywords that it was on page 1 for, when i was thinking, i added a comment section to my site, and a few comments had been left with swear words in them.

HAs anyone every heard of anything like this?
What is your opinion on this?

    thanks.

I would seriously doubt so. Google is a Search Engine not any moral enforcement organization. I guess it is just a matter of coincidence that your SERP drops

It's probably just Google updating, happened to me a while back and with no changes to my site and now it's back up.

Wasn't there some links in the user comments? If there's some link to "bad" website, this may get your site penalized.

it is possible. there are certain stop words that might mark your site as a "bad neighbourhood"

    such as (delete stars):

    s*e*x* w*i*t*h*o*u*t *c*o*n*d*o*m

    m*a*k*i*n*g* *b*o*m*b*s

    etc

Why not check your site with a "bad neighbourhood" tool.

Yeah i know its a long shot but i had heard of stopwords before and just wondering if this was possible.
Nah the comments on the page dont have a section for a link.
I will check the "bad neighbourhood" tool, Thanks.

I wouldnt check my site with any tool unless google wrote the tool, otherwise you set yourself up for speculation like most of your response.

Stop word are everyday words found in meta data tags such as, it / was / then / are / stop / our / etc etc

Next your thoughts on the words you masked

    http://www.google.com/search?q=sex+...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

    http://www.google.com/search?q=maki...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Seems there are 10 listings on the front page for both and many of the sites have nice PageRank.

    :)

To the OP - No they would not....it would seem more likely your links were of poor quality and devalued once Google scored them.

Ok, just noticed one of the comments on my page actually contained the words, "scumbag americans"

I have removed it so i will see if anything happens.

I know its a long shot but hey. Mind you i suppose if that was the case, digitalpoint would be panalized after google indexes this page.

That wont make a bit of difference......we Americans may be scumbags to some.... but we recognize the freedom of speech worldwide... and as such there would not be a filter applied for such....

Much worse things have been done without consequence....

hardcore porn sites can still have PR and rank, but it doesnt make them any less of a bad neighbourhood.

would you want a link off www.h*rdcorep*ssp*rn.com in your backlink profile? No...

So would you want the word "h*rdcore p*ss p*rn" on your whitehat family friendly site? No! Could it harm your rankings? Debatable but possible...

Dont forget its not just Google that is important. There are many different web protection systems that operate in business, family homes, schools etc - getting marked down as a potential bad neighbourhood can damage your traffic and you will never even know why...

There is a huge difference between hardcore porn and the OPs issue of having a few curse words on his site.

Since the OP was asking about his site and not what happens if he post porn on his site you are at best adding confusion where none need be.

One does not receive a bad neighborhood citation due to curse words ( I doubt scumbag is a curse word).

Also one site in and of itself is not a neighborhood......

Bad neighborhood would be having 20 MFA and other blackhat spam sites linking to your one whitehat site.

Hope this helps end any confusion for you.

    :)

Cursing can hurt you with adsense, but I don't think with SERPS
