No they'd never ever admit that, ever. In fact in their eyes they probably see it as a success because I think the ultimate goal is 1)keep everyone confused and or scared about rankings and using SEO in general 2)make them get adwords to rank on the front page 3)profit.

it's all about getting more adwords income - nothing to do with improving rankings. They will make Google more money, so where is the mistake? (unless people boycott Google and takings fall?)

I think they would not admit to it. That would make them vulnerable to the general public as one of the largest search engines on the Internet.

One day they will admit their mistake because their update create mass unemployment in Asia specially in India...US and UK seo firms outsource their 80% of seo business to Asia and i hope US firms will try to pressurize google against this update..

They dont care of this, according to them they did the right things to predict the spamming. finally its the question of maintaining the reputation. Penguin update is against keyword stuffing, over link building and selling of links, web spamming, cloaking. but this time more sites get penalized because of this update. many webmasters oppose this update. mainly the keywords by which your site get searched in google search, now its invisible and for many keywords ranking get decreased from 1st page to 4-5th page. this penguin update punishes many more.

NO, they are too big to admit that they made a mistake.

They will just shove it under the rug.

Google is a well-know search engine. For it's popularity, it turned to a verb synonymous to "search", "find", or alike looking what we are questing.
Why would they admit that they committed mistake for releasing one of their Penguin pet? For all I know they made it to eradicate the pathogens. And to make the Google search result more accurate, filtered and concise. May I ask, why do you think they committed mistake? Were your website affected by this update?

Well, Google is a search giant and according to them whatever they do is for benefit of users. So, you can't complain actually even they are wrong as they will never admit any type of mistake.

Penguin update is not a mistake in my regard , but they should not have make it to public , until they fully checked it out. really to be it is in a beta mode , it needs great deal of changes because , currently it only determines PG rank , only taking under back-links and link outs in consideration and not the content and tagging (URL , Link-structure) in consideration.

There are many other changes like url-structure , directory structure , tagging , back-links , .... etc etc

But It was a neccesity , because there are many bogus sites in there , which needs tamming.

If they do believe they have made mistakes, they can simply make changes without telling anyone - they don't have to announce what they are doing.
