Hi. Once my forum has over 20,000 threads. As my shared server could not handle it, i reset database and start Forum again with fresh database. Now my server is powerfull. If i restore those old threads, Would google ban me ?
This is an interesting question! I think so long as you don't resubmit the posts, then Google won't know about them, as they exist only in the database. If the index still contains these links on Google, but they're currently 404ing, then they will correctly resume, and things should be okay. If you do a database restore, won't you lose whatever posts were created after you reset the database? I think Google may penalise if you were to try to resubmit these all at once, so perhaps a way you could do it is to prevent Google from indexing through robots.txt, then slowly add them back. That's going to be a lot of work for 20,000 though. Out of interest, how many new posts do you get a day? If you already have high traffic you might be okay, but if you don't and you add 20,000 I think that they will be ignored. Personally I wouldn't do it, and it might annoy your forum members having their posts go missing, and they might leave.
Well. Thanks for answer. 1. I have resetted the database in March 2010. So none of those old threads are available in Google's index now. 2.I will not simply restore that Database by overwriting newer database which will delete newer threads since then. I will integrate them with newer ones. So google will see that in a day there are +20,000 Threads. Unfortunately i am afraid i cant restrict google by robots.txt. But I may decrease google indexing frequency in my site form Google WebMaster. Would this work ? I have VbSeo sitemap. So i may delete it for a while also.
