I have done this marketing technique with 17 websites (2 were my own), and there was an average traffic increase of a little over 29%. I have a team of 6 guys who do this along with me, and it works pretty well. The technique is Xbox Live. This is a place online where MILLIONS of I'd say 7-40 year-olds come together and play Xbox games against/with each other. I will be able to make my gamertag (online username) your URL, or I will put something like "Go Read my Bio", and I will put your link in the profile of my gamertag.
