Worth ditching adult for adsense?

    Hi All,

I'm in something of a quandry. My site has been up for (only?) a year now and I've not made a penny.

The adult pages are the busiest but none of the searches captured by webalizer that bring people to my site are adult related (most are for some Timberlake chap ;) )

Obviously I can't use adsense at present but I'm considering going straight and ditching the adult content so that I can use it.

Would my site stand up without the adult content? (be gentle with me please ;) )

    Thanks.

What traffic do you get? How many uniques per day?

Need a little more info, url is the most helpful but at least how you have tried to make money in the past.

The short answer is yes. If you get any traffic, adsense will more than likely make you more than nothing.

Adult industry is the biggest online & the fastest earner as well. I think you have not done proper research on adult moneymaking. Adsense earns you pennies whereas adult industry will earn you dollars.

I personally would get out of the adult stuff either way. There are ways to make money online without being embarrassed to be found out.

Some great ideas here - thanks for your input :)

I am a little embarrassed at trying to make money out of adult - no matter how cool my friends think it is! ;)

I'm currently seeing a good improvement in unique visitors over this month but I'm not sure how sustainable it is. I got 828 yesterday but I've had over 600 for the past week. Average for the month is 383. Hits Average for the month is 32764.

What is your site's pagerank? if it is very high you could sell text links too

Your traffic is very little for an adult site.
Personally I would dump it and maybe try something a little more mainstream like celebs or singers instead.

yeah. if you could get 600 people a day on a clean site adsense should bring you at least 10-15 bucks a day. if you have a ok niche.

big pmaying niches could do uch more. and small paying niches could do much less I suppose. anywhere from 2 bucks to 25 I guess?????

    Hi All,

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my thread. Although there's a few replies that are supporting the adult (and I wouldn't expect much different from a non-adult forum) most are suggesting I try mainstream which I think is the right way to go.

My PR is currently 3 but some of the predictors out there say it's going to be at least a 4 next time round...

I don't have to throw anything away which is cool, I can just sideline the scripts and dump the database entries to an SQL file.

That's this weekend taken care of ;)

    Thanks again,

There are lots of good adult affiliate programs around. Who know you might make more with them than Adsense. I've been working in adult industry for years but started to get sick of it.. Now I'm trying adsense! Not because of the money but the work itself. It is really difficult to drive traffic in mainstream industry lol

Hey FisHY are we related? ;)

I've heard that 85% of adult webmasters give up within the first year and that's probably just due to the stigma that's associated with it. I know how they feel, but I also want to make money! I'm sick of 9-5 as I'm sure most of the people on this forum are :)

One option I've thought of is to separate the site into two domains. That way I can do both...

    Thanks.

If your site is not adult, and there are only certain parts of your site that are adult, you can apply for Adsense with another site, and put Adsense on your big volume site, but only put the ads on NON-ADULT pages. Leave the more adult pages clear of Adsense and you'll be fine. Find other ways to monetize the adult pages, like with Adbrite, Clicksor, etc.

    Hi Pondlife,

**Assuming the site takes no day-to-day work**
Keep the adult site. Put Adbrite links up, put PPC up from companies that allow Adult (SearchFeed, RevenuePilot, LinkaNova, Clicksor etc). If it is going to be a PR4, then sell links here. You will make $10 a month from just the link sales EASY.

Then, start another site, but a 'clean' version of the adult one (ie, non-adult pics/info on Timberlake). Put links from the adult site to the clean one to get traffic. That way you will have a flying start with your new site. Put Adsense all over this site & grow this site.

    Hi Jack,

    Re:
Isn't that a breach of the AdSense TOS? They seem quite clear in that the 'site' shouldn't contain any adult material?

    Hi BurgerKing,

I think you're right. By splitting into two domains and have one linking to the other I get the best of both worlds.

    Thanks!

What about adsense-like services or companies that allow adult material? Where do I find them?

    Hi rampante,

Good question, hopefully someone will answer it for us... Or perhaps we should set one up? :)
