From your own experience, which is the worst registrar you've had the (dis)pleasure of dealing with and why? I could only select 10 for the poll, but if the one you want to select is not listed, feel free to mention it in the thread + reason. .
Everytime I used network solutions, customer service and just hosting always had problems... One site I had hosted, for a Canadian company became hosted in Australia... now, from an SEO standpoint, isn't that bad?
GoDaddy but just due to unfair kidnapping of domains that were marked by anonymous as promoted by spam and their senseless fees to release that domain. Hit nodaddy.com or search google but most of You know what I mean.
RE: Register Fly or was it Registry Fly...I don't quite recall They went down in a hail of fire and took peoples domain names with them...so yes, they definitely deserve their horrible reputation. .
I see 2 votes for namecheap. It might be good registrar if they doesn't have so many errors and downtimes in their system. Yeah, and their prices are quite high comparing to others.
I would say the worst registrar I have ever used is one not in that list. Some Polish registrar required that the website was setup, and we added an A record for one of their servers before they would allow the clients nameservers to be changed to us. Nightmare when they had 15 odd domains as well.
one and one (1&1) i try to buy a co.uk domain name they took my cc and never bothered to reg the domain two weeks later i got the name at fasthost, crappy 1&1 stay away from them, oh and thename.co.uk the first domain i ever reg was with them i pay over the phone they got my email address wrong and i had no access to the domain for 4 years untill it was deleted and i had to drop catch that domain.
Yahoo should be on the list - they have been the worst domain registrar I have ever dealt with. Recently they raised their rates for renewals from 9.95 all the way up to 34.95. I transferred any domains I had with them to GoDaddy a long time ago, but someone I know got charged 34.95 to their CC and didnt even know what it was for. When they investigated they found that it was for the renewal of their domain which wasnt even due for another 2 weeks. So not only did Yahoo raise their rates (without informing anyone) they made the charge early. A few years ago I cancelled my Yahoo hosting account (because it was terrible) and Yahoo would not let me access my domain control panel (out of spite?) I was on the phone with them over and over and I finally had to pay them 34.95 before I could even access my domain control to change the name servers.
Godday are the worst, customer support not good and some time their reply me that their receive my empty email......
Too bad there were only 10 slots. I would have definitely added a couple more to the poll... Yahoo being one of the ones that slipped my mind. I just do not trust registrars that require sign up by phone. Also not crazy about ones where name push services are not offered. So inconvenient. .
