My organisations main competitor recently acquired an "SEM expert", presumably to counter the success we (read:I) have generated in the last year, particularly in PPC. The funny thing is, all he/she is doing is copying my ads, and to make matters worse (for them) he/she is not even copying them correctly . So heres my two questions: When you are targeting a new industry in PPC - whats your first move? Does anyone else have examples of shocking PPC ad attempts?
Haha, people who try unsuccessfully to rip you off can be quite amusing. Generally, my first move is to see what the competition's up to. Not copy them of course, but to see what works for them. What keywords are they on, what are they not, and does that mean they're opportunities or areas to avoid? Then, it comes down to finding out if there's any other 'niche keywords' I can target to lower my break-in prices. It's all about figuring out what angles have been taken, and how you can go directly up against the competition vs. outmaneuvering them with other/side keywords and such. And for shocking PPC ad attempts, I haven't seen any other "copied my ad" attempts that were shocking, but I have seen some pretty pathetic ads on adwords, such as "Become a psychic" You can learn how to have fun with friends (dumburl.com) or other equally lame ads. hehe. -T
That is quite a shocking ad...LOL The ad that Im talking about in my original post used the Headline: Car Rental Treat I know that its a hassle sometimes to not be allowed to use superlatives in google but "treat" is certainly not something I associate with renting a car
