Oh, and here's GATE.COM's BBB record, UNSATISFACTORY: http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/nis/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&strBCode=06330000&ComID=0633000011008741# (I just submitted my full BBB complaint as well).
I currently use Netfirms, any reason why I shouldn't? I've been with them for about ayear and no real problems.
To be 100% honest, I just visited their website and was instantly turned off by the sleazy looking character on the front page. But seriously, are they as bad as..*gasp* NETFIRMS?!
Thanks for that warning.. Another two you won't want to check out would be Pipex hosting and 123-reg.co.uk. In both instances their service is mediocre and they overcharge you without refund too. My friend is currently filing a case against 123-reg.co.uk. I personally use ikhost.net, they're brilliant if you're in the UK or Europe. Virtually 100% uptime, hosting unlimited domains for £2.50/month and it's also damn secure too.
I have been using 1&1 Hosting. Will not recommend them to anyone. My website was down for about 40% of time during first month, after what I canceled my account. Now I am with HostGator and they are really the BEST!
Precisely.. any developer will know that you can't give a version to a concept that harnesses 3 different languages!
That just can't be true. Anyway ... OP should head over to WHT and give a review there as well. Hostgator seems to get a lot of kudos in this thread. Based on other reviews I don't really get that. If I need hosting, I often go with a smaller provider ... of course still reputable. This means they take the time to help me. Everyone burns a hand once every while - just be sure to have read TOS and know how to get out.
Hostgator: TOS = month to month (can't beat that) + no setup fee (awesome). Also, and this is a biggie, I don't know how good their customer service is since my hosting account was setup so well and solid that I've never had to ask them anything in 7 months! I've setup 15 add-on domains, each with a database or two, with custom software, email forwarding + catch alls, etc. etc. That's why I give them kudos. I'm the kind of person that would rather spend a few minutes and figure it out than to rush to the phone and call customer service. Hostgator is perfect for people like me (IMO). I know some people will have a different experience. I am just thrilled that I've finally found a hosting company and plan that I'm content with. My only concern is that it will change.
Am with dreamhost, exelent support, great value (250Gb space, 2.5TB..) they are rarely offline (twice this year) but when they decide to go DOWN its for good anything from 12 hours to 1 day of down time lol. but over all its the best host that i used till now.
I like Bluehost... It has excellent support... Plus they are never down... I tried W-hosts.net last month when they were under old management and they completely sucked... They were up about 25% of the time... So I requested a refund... But now they seem to be run by new management so I don't know how thats going but anythings gotta be better than the old one.
Just an update: After receiving the collections notice... I called them and told them "I never received the product/service" ... Then I filed the complaint at BBB. I just received a notification from the BBB with Gate.com's statement: "After reviewing the customer's complaint, we are removing his account from collections. The account is closed." w00t! So don't let shotty companies rip you off. Take action, and let the good companies prosper. Thanks to all who posted.
Thanks for the heads up. It'll be easy for me to remember their name. As for me, I'll be sticking with hostgator for awhile, I'm very satisfied with them.
