WorldWide Time Wishes on Meeting??

I come across a question which i would like to discuss with all the members over here at DP. I came across the question about the time wishes which is a greeting with the words like :-

    Good Morning
    Good After Noon
    Good Evening
    Good Night

These are the words generally used as a professional time wishes on meeting someone.

Question: Suppose the time is 2:00 Pm and i met with one of my senior officer can i time wish him with Good Morning??

I have heard about when leaving for the day we can say Good Night no matter what the time is. So like wise when i am meeting my officer in the afternoon but it's the first time in the day so can this be accepted or I have to greet him by "Good After Noon" as per the time.

Please tell me the appropriate time wishes.

    Good Morning - before noon
Good afternoon - up until 5:00 pm
    good evening - 5-7 pm
good night - anytime you are seeing/talking to someone for the last time in a day

I don't think these are written in stone anywhere. When in doubt just say "hello"

When you are seeing your higher officer for the first time in a day (even when the time is 2.00pm) you can wish him good afternoon. There is no no need to worry that you are meeting him for the first time on that day and planning to tell good morning.
It may sound foolish when you say good morning when you meet him for the first time during evening hours. In that case, wish him a good evening :)
