I have always been a collector of world war two items and will soon be taking a trip over to Europe in November to take a look around at sites such as Omaha, Berlin and england stopping at key locations. Do you have any suggestions of places to visit while I am over there? And if you have any collectibles I would love to see them here is one I just recently got a few years ago. This is part of the "Victory Rings" and is the Wehrmacht version others such as Luftwaffe had a different style ring. It is a prototype that was made if the German army was to win during world war 2. They where from an elderly man who recounted that in 1945 as Berlin was crushed and in flames he visited several jewelry firms that he had worked for. He had been a free-lancer finisher and enameler and worked from time to time for Wagner, Wilm, Deshler and other smaller shops. Knowing that many of these wonderful pieces would be lost to the looting Russian's he decided to go on a dangerous mission to rescue many of these artistic treasures, many that he had either constructed, designed, or finished himself. *Just so no one gets bent out of shape I am not a fan of war or what happened in world war two. Needless killing such as this should never happen but learning and studying our past can in hopes prevent the same mistakes from happening again.*
Thats a very good thing that you love collecting such items... When you get them dont forget to place their pics here on DP..
wow that is a nice looking ring, I'd be interested in seeing what other collectables you have. If this is a prototype I imagine it is pretty rare.
Wow, great man. I wish you to get some more interesting stuff for your collection. I like history too, but I don't have much money to pay for things from the past. They must be expensive.
I got a bayonet off a ww2 German Mauser in excellent condition. Pm me with an offer and I'll send you a pic.
In Belgium there are some places you can visit.. camp Breendonk (north of Brussels) and near the coast (Ieper) there are a lot of war cemetaries and musea.. farmers in that area almost daily still dig up unexploded bombs from WW2. Lmk if you have a preference for something (ie war cemetary of UK / USA/ Canada) and I'll look up some places for you.
